On a vehicle history report, what does 'Plate Changes'mean?

While you find my car registration history on your vehicle history report, if you notice a plate change then it could be a reason to be concerned. It could be for a genuine reason, such as a personalized license plate, or it could be for something threatening. Here more information on the DVLA's warning and what it means:

Pass - If everything else looks good, you should go ahead and make the transaction. This vehicle's license plate hasn't changed in a long time or only changed a few times. This is what a passing result looks like.

Warning - If you get a warning, it signifies the plate has been modified too many times and you should conduct additional research. It could be a case of vanity or a genuine attempt to conceal the identity of the vehicle.

Note: There are times when all the keepers could have had personalized plates which could result in too many plate changes, which you should be careful about.

Before you make a purchase, double-check that:

    • That the VIN matches
    • The engine number matches
    • The V5C logbook date matches
